New regulation for State and Community of Madrid Cyber Security
On 14 January 2025, the Spanish Council of Ministers approved the preliminary draft of the Cybersecurity Coordination and Governance Law. This initiative aims to strengthen the protection of networks and information systems against the growing cyber threats that can affect both the economy and national security.
Among the main measures included in this law is the creation of the National Cybersecurity Center, which will act as the central authority responsible for directing, promoting and coordinating cybersecurity policies in the country. It also establishes the figure of the person responsible for information security, appointed by each entity to ensure compliance with regulations and the implementation of adequate protection measures.
The approval of this law responds to the need to adapt the Spanish regulatory framework to European guidelines on cybersecurity, seeking greater coordination between the different administrations and the private sector to effectively address cyber threats.
This regulation also envisages the creation of a National Cybersecurity Center, which will act as the single authority responsible for the direction, promotion and coordination of cybersecurity in Spain. In this context, Malaga City Council has proposed that the city should be the headquarters of this new centre, highlighting its strategy in innovation and technology, as well as its consolidated cybersecurity ecosystem.
The implementation of this law represents a significant step towards strengthening the country's resilience to cyber threats and ensuring the security of digital infrastructures in an increasingly interconnected environment.
