This is what the socio-occupational roots will be like according to the new Foreign Nationals Regulation

From the entry into force of the new Foreigners' Regulation on 20 May 2025, the modifications to the social roots will come into force, including the socio-occupational roots (article 127B9 which would be the old social root with contract and with which now (from its entry into force) it will only be sufficient to prove two years of stay in the country, instead of three years, as until now) and one or more contracts with a working day of 20 hours, instead of the 30 or 40 hours required at present, can be provided. The salary must be the minimum interprofessional wage or according to the corresponding agreement and, very importantly, it will not be necessary to present the Integration Report, as was compulsory until now.

The main requirements, apart from the usual ones, will be:

  • Be in Spain
  • Not be considered as an applicant for international protection (asylum seekers).
  • Have been continuously in Spain for at least two years prior to the submission of the application. In the case of asylum seekers, the period between the processing of said application and the withdrawal, if applicable, shall not be computable for these purposes.
  • Provision of one or more employment contracts for a minimum of 20 hours, minimum interprofessional wage or agreement.
  • The employer must comply with the usual requirements of not having any debts with the Treasury or Social Security.

The permit obtained will have an initial duration of one year, and may be renewed for four years.
